Ilkley and District Good Neighbours was first set up in the 1970's. It comprises a team of local volunteers managed from the Ilkley office of Keighley & Ilkley Voluntary and Community Action. We are here to help residents in the area by offering practical assistance where it is needed.  Good Neighbours is a small charity which operates a range of schemes, constantly striving to develop the service to improve the lives of our most vulnerable members of the community.  We are always willing to start and develop a scheme where we have established there is a community need.

We believe in the power of community action to make a difference in people's daily lives. For each of our schemes we raise a team of volunteers who are willing to help others in their community in a number of ways.

Our GrassRoots venture is the arm of our organisation which deals with helping people out around the house. It is composed of a band of DIYers and gardeners who visit homes in Ilkley and district to tidy gardens, change light-bulbs and much more.

Aims and Objectives

Our aim is to try to help people in a personal and friendly way.  The service is available to elderly, disabled and vulnerable people who require our assistance.

Our objectives are to promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the community in Ilkley, Addingham, Burley in Wharfedale and Menston.  We promote the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness.

Our schemes are all designed to relieve isolation, promote economic well-being, re-establish a feeling of self worth, relieve boredom and promote independence and stronger mental health.

Ilkley and District Good Neighbours Community Transport

Ilkley & District Good Neighbours Community Transport is now a separate charity but continues to be administered from the KIVCA office. Enquiries or bookings for minibus hire or car lifts can be made through the office. The organisation covers the localities of Ilkley, Addingham, Burley in Wharfedale and Menston.

We work closely with our sister charity, Ilkley and District Good Neighbours Community Transport.  They assist us with our Over 90s party, transporting the party goers and their carers to the Clarke Foley Centre, Ilkley and back to their homes.

They assist also with our annual excursions, again collecting people from their homes and returning them.

We use their fully adapted vehicles which can accommodate people with mobility problems and wheelchairs.
